Appointment of Assistant Superintendent, Risk Support Sector

I am very pleased to announce today the appointment of Sanjiv Talwar to the position of Assistant Superintendent, Risk Support Sector (RSS).

Mr. Talwar will be joining us in the fall once arrangements have been finalized.

Mr. Talwar has been in the financial sector for over 25 years as a senior executive in risk management and trading in multinational banking institutions in Canada, Europe and Asia.

Mr. Talwar was Head of Risk Capital, Stress Testing and Model Development at the Bank of Montreal, where he oversaw the determination of capital demand and was accountable for all risk model development and the use of stress testing within BMO and the US CCAR exercise.

Prior to BMO, Mr. Talwar served in senior positions at OCBC Bank in Singapore, and CIBC in Toronto.

His experience also includes leadership positions at Commerzbank Securities in London, where he served as Head of Quantitative Research & Financial Engineering and Head of E-Commerce.

Mr. Talwar holds a BSc and MSc in Civil Engineering from University of Waterloo and a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Mr. Talwar will join OSFI’s Executive Committee, which includes Ben Gully, Assistant Superintendent, Regulation Sector; Jamey Hubbs, Assistant Superintendent, Deposit-taking Supervision Sector; Neville Henderson, Assistant Superintendent, Insurance Supervision Sector; Michelle Doucet, Assistant Superintendent, Corporate Services Sector; and myself.
