Guides to intervention

The intervention process allows us to identify areas of concern and intervene at an early stage to reduce or prevent loss. When we make assessments throughout the intervention process, we consider the institution’s unique circumstances, including its:

  • nature
  • scope
  • complexity
  • risk profile

The intervention guides vary based on industry, but they all aim to increase awareness and transparency of our intervention framework.

OSFI’s new Supervisory Framework became effective on April 1, 2024.  We intend to update the Guides to Intervention to remove outdated references. In the meantime, please see the table below for a mapping of the new Overall Risk Rating to Intervention Stage Rating.
