Carolyn Rogers announced as the next Secretary General of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision

Today the Basel Committee announced that Carolyn Rogers, Assistant Superintendent, Regulation Sector at the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI), has been selected to become the next Secretary General of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) for an initial term of three years.
Ms. Rogers is currently responsible for OSFI’s policy-related functions, including capital, accounting, and legislation. Prior to joining OSFI, Carolyn served as Superintendent and Chief Executive Officer of the integrated financial sector regulator of British Columbia, the Financial Institutions Commission (FICOM).
Ms. Rogers will assume the role in August 2019.

- The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) is the primary global standard setter for the prudential regulation of banks and provides a forum for regular cooperation on banking supervisory matters.
- It currently has 45 members comprised of central banks and bank supervisors from 28 jurisdictions.
- The Secretary General of the BCBS plays a crucial role in directing the work of the Secretariat and supporting the Chair in fulfilling the Committee’s mandate to strengthen the regulation, supervision and practices of banks worldwide with the purpose of enhancing financial stability.
- This will be the first time that a Canadian has assumed this role.
