What OSFI’s Protected B-Financial (PB-FIN) information label means to you
We are committed to safeguarding sensitive information in accordance with Government of Canada policy and information handling requirements.
As part of this commitment, starting July 16, 2026, emails and documents from OSFI may be labelled Protected B-Financial (PB-FIN).
What PB-FIN means
PB-FIN is a sub-category of Protected B information used by OSFI to identify highly sensitive financial and supervisory information.
The PB-FIN label means the information requires heightened protection because unauthorized access, disclosure, or mishandling could result in serious financial, legal, or market impacts. The information is also subject to confidentiality legal obligations under the OSFI Act.
Your responsibilities when handling PB-FIN information
If you receive PB-FIN information, you are expected to:
- restrict access to people who need it to perform their work
- protect it properly, following OSFI information security handling guidance in addition to GC standard requirements for PB information
- keep it confidential and not disclose, share, or use it for any other purpose without OSFI’s prior written consent
- keep the PB-FIN label on the information and any authorized copies or reproductions
- consult OSFI regarding the application of Access to Information Act (ATIP) exemptions
